For sure - I wonder what PT Barnum would say about this level of grift; in research, it seems like people actively participated in the con with joy, knowing it was false; i KNOW that is a monkey with a fishtail stapled to it, you say it's the Fiji Mermaid, ok guy, I'll entertain it - there is a thin ass line between bullshit and bunkum - the grifters of today are so detached from reality, and the promises are so unearthly, and the rewards and risks are so intertwined with culture, that it's akin to an alien invasion.
