So Many Dicks
e.l.f. Beauty's "So Many Dicks" Campaign Calls for Diverse Thinking in Boardrooms
According to a recent Adweek article, e.l.f. Beauty launched a campaign called "So Many Dicks, So Few of Everyone Else" to shed light on the lack of diversity in corporate boards, particularly in terms of gender and race. According to the article:
There were 566 men named Richard, Rick, or Dick serving on those boards.
Hispanic women numbered 283, only one-half the number of “Dicks.”
There were 806 Black women and 774 Asian women on boards.
The campaign's attention-grabbing title underlines a surprising truth: there are more men named "Dick" on boards than women or minorities. This statistic serves as a springboard for a larger conversation about the need for diverse thinking in leadership.
We are highlighting this for two reasons. First, it is a necessary message for the world. Second, it is an intriguing way to break through in a crowded market, capture the mind, and help us think more about this critical issue. Bravo to e.l.f for taking on this issue— and congrats to their agency, Oberland.
While the campaign spotlights racial and gender inequities, it is critical to understand and incorporate a broader range of perspectives to foster innovation and cultural relevance for any company that wants to thrive.
