Canva’s Price Hike Reversal
For anyone who knows me, you’ll know I’ve been a huge Canva fan. I’ve even written a love letter to them (seriously, check it out: love letter). But like any love affair, ours hit a bit of a rough patch recently.
When I received the email from Canva announcing a price hike, it felt like the very thing that made Canva so special—its accessibility and its commitment to empowering creativity for everyone—was slipping away in favor of a more corporate model. And yes, I get it, new features and growth need funding, but the sudden jump in cost felt like a betrayal of the values that made Canva stand out in the first place. Was the company I’d been championing for years shifting away from the community it’s built?
But then, something unexpected happened.
I got another email from Canva, this time announcing a price reversal for early adopters. Canva listened. They didn’t just brush off the feedback or push ahead for profit’s sake; they hit pause, reflected, and ultimately chose to reward loyalty. It’s proof that Canva hasn’t forgotten its roots or the users who helped them get to where they are today.
So, to the Canva team, thank you for doing what’s right, for listening to your community, and for taking action. Your move to reverse the pricing for early adopters shows that Canva still stands by its core values of accessibility and collaboration, and for that, I applaud you.
Of course, I hope this spirit of listening and fairness continues. This customer-first mindset has set Canva apart from the beginning, and it will keep me—and countless others—onboard for the long haul.
For now, this love affair is back on track. Keep doing what you’re doing, Canva, and you’ll continue to have a community of loyal fans rooting for you every step.
Here’s the letter!
